Remember Laurie always had the softest hands most beautiful smile and eyes that twinkled

Jayne Kettner on Sep 9, 2019

I am so, so sorry to hear Lauree is gone from us. Such sad news. I will always remember where I was Friday when I got the texts from my brothers passing along our sad family news... Laureen had passed away.

Lauree was always in my life, born the month after I was, growing up in the same home, and for a time as the only little girls. I have fond memories of her in our home and on our farm. I can still see her inside our home with her family, and outside with Aunt Charlotte. I see her in the sunlight on the front porch. I can see Uncle Herb help her inside the car and I see either Aunt Charlotte or Uncle Herb sitting with her at church.

I missed her when she moved away and I remember asking when Lauree was coming back. I felt sad. As a child, it was hard to understand. I understand more now and I still feel sad she had to move away from us.

I also have fond memories of her in La Crescent. It always felt good to visit her down at ABLE. Lauree never rejected anyone. It was comforting to spend time with her. She always made my busy world slow down and made me examine my priorities and get them more in line with what matters most in life.

I remember Mary talking so gently with her first cousin Lauree, helping her do a high five, and putting her pink Hello Kitty hat on her head. Lauree looked Mary in the eyes, and she looked awesome sporting her hat!

It felt good to finally be able to sit and talk with her about our childhood. I shared more memories than I can list here. Lauree patiently sat and listened. I remember she seemed to like soft things by her face. She looked like her momma’s daughter and admired her elegant, soft hands.

Laureen was a sweet soul. She endured more than I ever will, yet I never heard her complain once. I am certain she is rejoicing in heaven today and maybe sitting on her daddy’s lap again.

I appreciated when Mom, Mary, and I were invited to Laurie’s 50th birthday party. We enjoyed it and it was meaningful to see Lauree with her mom and two sisters. If felt like our two of families of girls who once lived on Rural Route 2 was complete. Cassidy & Aiden were also there to enjoy their grandma's angel food birthday cake for their Aunt Lauree. It was just like ole times!

When I first let Mary know our sad family news, she said, “Oh, that’s SAD.” She paused and said, “Now she is with her dad, and little brother, and David.”

God has provided for Laureen, more than we could ever have imagined, and He has used her as His vessel for His purposes.

The deepest of sympathy for your family’s loss of your dear Lauree.

Your nieces, and cousins from the West Coast,

Mary and Jayne
