RUSHFORD, MN - Donald "Donny" B. Woxland, 94, of Rushford, MN died on Friday, January 25, 2019, at his home.
Donny was born the 6th child to Gilbert and Gina (Drengmundson) Woxland on August 19, 1924, in Rushford, MN. He was raised in Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School where he played on the basketball team. Donny met the love of his life, Laurine Woxland from Houston during high school. Donny and Laurine were united in marriage on October 4, 1942. Donny worked for Northwest Airlines in St. Paul, MN and in Ohio during WWII building B17s for the war effort. He was a Master Plumber and partner in his family business, G.S. Woxland with Gilly Woxland and Myron Forsythe for 40 years. He sold the business to his nephews, Glenn, Bradley and Brian Woxland in 1984. Donny was a member of the Sons of Norway in Minneapolis, MN and La Crosse, WI, the Rushford Lion's Club for 78 years, Rushford Lutheran Church, where he was the cod fish dinner chairman for 37 years, choir member and also sang for funerals and weddings. Donny was also a member of Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona where he and Laurine spent more than 30 winters. He was very, very proud of his Norwegian heritage.
He is survived by his wife, Laurine; two children: Stephen (Kathy) Woxland of Pardeeville, WI, RoxAnne (George) Scott of Richfield, MN; two grandchildren: Matthew (Brandon) Vaagsland and Kelly (Saul) Wainright; five great-grandchildren: Leiv, Kasper, Karsten, Eyala, and Ezra; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sister.
There will be a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Reverend Steven Chellew officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Rushford and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the church cemetery this coming May.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials directed to the Rushford Community Foundation.

Laurine, Ruth and i have many memories of the times we "connected" with you and Don, whether it was at breakfast in Mesa, church at Victory or having coffee in your home in Rushford. Laurine and Family Members,
On behalf of all the employees and the School Board Members at Rushford – Peterson, I extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to you and your families. We were all saddened to learn of Donny’s passing.
I commend him on all of his accomplishments during his lifetime and for his love of music. We are indebted to you and Donny for your financial support of our music programs and our school.
The saying goes that when we lose a loved one here on earth, we gain an angel in heaven that will watch over us. May you take comfort in knowing that you now have Donny “The Singing Angel,” who will lovingly watch over you.
Please trust that Donny is in the warm embrace of the “Good Lord” and is at peace. I am confident he will enjoy the joys and comforts of heaven.
May the Good Lord bless and comfort you and your families during this time of grief. We have you and your family members in our thoughts and prayers.

Laurine & family;
Your "tough Norwegian" had to finally give in, and we are all very saddened to get the news. The Lord allowed Don to live a good long life, but it is still heartbreaking to have to say that last goodbye. As you know , Don and I played golf on the same foursome here in Arizona, for around 20 years. While we were always competitive, we truly enjoyed playing together. Don was a good golfer and we all cheered when he had a hole-in-one at the Links at Queen Creek.
Bettie Lou and I send our love and our deepest sympathy. We pray that the Good Lord will give you strength to continue on. All of the Members of the Linksters golf League send their love and best wishes as well. He was a dedicated and faithful member and he will be missed.

Don you are the toughest Norwegian (with the biggest heart) that I've ever known! We will miss your smiling face, your laughter, and your love. I will always cherish the moments I spent with you on the patio having a "root beer", our long talks, and your big hugs. Our sincerest condolences and prayers go out to the Woxland family. God Bless, Lisa & Sydney Preston
