HOUSTON, MN - R. Jack Kerrigan, 88, of Houston, MN died on Monday, October 15, 2018, at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab in Houston.
Jack was born on December 30, 1929, in Winona, MN to Bill and Eva (Peterson) Kerrigan. He was raised in Houston and was a graduate of Houston High School and Winona State University. He was united in marriage with Charlotte Sanden on March 24, 1951. Jack served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and Platoon Commander during the Korean Conflict. Following his time in the Military, Jack received his Masters Degree in Education from Winona State. He taught school in Black River Falls, WI for one year. Jack worked as a rural mail carrier primarily in the Houston area for 39 years. Jack was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and the church council, Ferndale Golf Course in Rushford, MN, Valley View Nursing Home board, and the Houston School board. He was a Boy Scout leader and was a leader in extending the Root River Bike Trail to Houston. Jack was a congenial, interesting, hard-working, kind and gentle man and he loved reading about history. His wife Charlotte was the love of his life and he loved his family and grandchildren dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two sons: Mike (Julie Ann) Kerrigan of Walker, MN and Steve Kerrigan of St. Anthony Village, MN; four grandchildren: Sarah, Brent, Daniel and Jill; one great-grandchild, Autumn; and by a brother, Jim (Faye) Kerrigan of Redmond, WA.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Glenn.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 29th, at 1:00 p.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with The Reverend Linda McPeak officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston.

Jack and Charlotte Kerrigan, Margaret and Bob Anderson, Dillon and Mary Hempstead - these three couples had marvelous adventures together. Younger brother John and later Marilyn joined to enjoy their delightful interactions. Jack was always an amiable presence. It has been my pleasure to observe the many faces of Jack and his good friends since they were in high school. Seeing Jack and Charlotte at Houston events has kept alive memories of many good friends. We celebrate Jack's life!

Charlotte, Mike and Steve - I am so sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. He was such a kind man and always had a smile for everyone. Charlotte and Jack are a big part of my childhood memories.
Jack was such a great guy. He would always ride his bike past my mothers house in Houston and stop to say hello an inquire as to how my mother was doing. A true gentleman, Jack will be missed by all who had a chance to know him.
So sorry to hear that Jack has left us. I always looked forward to seeing him in church or greeting him at the post office each morning. My sympathy to Charlotte, Steve, Mike, and the entire family. He was a wonderful man.
