How Did We Do?

ST. CHARLES, MN - James Alois "Jim" Mueller, 86, of St. Charles, MN died on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN.
Jim was born on March 1, 1932, on the family farm in Elba Township, MN to Leo and Lucy (Wieser) Mueller. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as an M.P. in Wurzburg, Germany. After his time in the military, Jim moved back home to farm. On November 23, 1960, Jim was united in marriage with Marie Reining at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester, MN.
Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved farming on his family's Century Farm. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, family sledding parties, 4th of July celebrations, whittling diamond willow canes and dancing to polka music. He was a very faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba, MN. Jim was a fire warden, member of the Elba Township Board, Catholic Aid Association, and took care of and dug graves at the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Elba for 34 years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marie; six children: Glenn (Jill) Mueller, Dennis Mueller, Jean (Bob) Tienter, James Mueller, Ted (Cass) Mueller, and Michael (Trisha) Mueller; ten grandchildren: Jessica (Josh), Peter, Samantha, Jonathan, Mary, James, Jack, Jacob, Hannah, and Leo; one great grandchild on the way; five siblings: George Mueller, Ted Mueller, Louis Mueller, Edith Holm, and Clara Burt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Cletus, Leora, Sister Bona, Arthur "Nick", and Marlene.
There will be a Memorial Mass for Jim at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba, MN with The Reverend Timothy Biren officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba.
The family prefers memorials to be directed to Chosen Valley Care Center, Mayo Hospice, or St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery.

My condolences to Marie, their family, and siblings on the passing of Jim. I consider him a dear friend and fondly remember the many nights and afternoons we spent hunting, cave exploring, and just hiking around the Whitewater Valley when we were young. I also have pleasant memories of visiting Jim and Marie after they moved to St. Charles. I treasure a diamond-willow staff that Jim gave me on one of those visits. May the Lord bless and welcome Jim and comfort his family.

CandleAunt Marie, Glenn, Dennis, Jeanie, Jay, Ted and Mike and families,
Such wonderful memories of times at the farm with all of you bring me comfort. I hope those same memories will bring you all peace, smiles and hope in the days ahead. Uncle Jim always had a smile, a twinkle in his eye and the cutest giggle when you spent any time with him. I know the birds will sing in joy in the days ahead as God now has the best of help to assist him. Prayers and God’s blessings to you all.

Aunt Marie, Glenn, Dennis, Jean, Jay, Ted, and Mike my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband and father. What a beautifully written obituary and picture. Uncle Jim truly was a simple man who did not need materialistic things to make him happy. He had his deep faith and loved his family and farming the earth of his ancestors. I remember the sledding parties on the hill with the big tractor inner tubes, the hikes to the Monarch House and Gainey’s gold mine, the 4th of July picnics and the New Year’s Day picnics in the snow. The day of Uncle Jim’s passing I read an article in a church bulletin that stated, “ Passing from this life to the next is simply moving from one way of living in Jesus to another.” God was welcoming Uncle Jim home to eternal life. Uncle Jim is gone in physical form only. His spirit lives on in each and everyone of you. May you all continue to make him proud in your own unique ways.
God’s Blessings to all. Annie Holm
