Wayne Dunbar

Wayne Dunbar of Winona, MN, passed away on September 27, 2025. He was 93 years old. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nancy; their three daughters, Vicki (Bill) Gersting, Carol Girard, and Diane (Tom) Buswell; 7 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

He spent his life making the world a better place by building schools and clinics in Liberia and Sierra Leone, Africa and by building houses in Winona County with Habitat for Humanity. He also touched the lives of countless students as a chemistry professor at Winona State University and at Manuel High School in Indianapolis, IN.

He guided his family with a quiet but confident wisdom, strong morals, and endless grace. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Wesley United Methodist Church (114 W Broadway St. Winona, MN) with visitation beginning at 1pm. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, 5pm-7pm at Hoff Celebration of Life Center (3480 Service Dr. Winona, MN).

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Winona Area Hospice, Wesley United Methodist Church O.C. Ministries, or Winona County Habitat for Humanity.
