Virgil Ellsworth

St. Charles, Virgil Vee Ellsworth, 84, of St. Charles died Wednesday March 17th at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Virgil was born December 2, 1919 in Utica Township of Winona County to Frank and Mabel (Jenkins) Ellsworth. He and Margaret Nisbit were married November 17, 1942 at Central Methodist Church in Winona. Virgil served in the Army during WWII and fought in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for area farmers before farming on his own in Utica Township and later in Saratoga Township. In 1974 he left the farm, moved to Rollingstone, where he worked as a painter. In 1992 he moved to Mosher Veterans Home in Dresbach. In February of 2001 he moved to St. Charles and has resided at Whitewater Healthcare Center. His wife Margaret died in 1958. Virgil was a member of St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed woodworking, polka music and dances, and was known for his rug making. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to spend time with his family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Larry (Rory) Ellsworth of Dover and Marlan (Janet) Ellsworth of St. Charles, seven grandchildren, Sunshine, Laremy and Aurie Ellsworth, Jaime Torres, Sarah Sexton, Melissa and Timothy Ellsworth, five great grandchildren, Jaydan, Devon, Justin , Tyler and Joey. In addition to his wife three brothers and seven sisters have died. Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel. Cremation will follow with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Utica.Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday and one hour before services Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel. Military graveside honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the St. Charles American Legion and VFW.
