Ursula Hogenson

Jul 6, 1939 — Oct 30, 2026

Winona

Ursula (Roth) Hogenson, age 87, of Winona, MN passed peacefully on October 30, 2026. Ursula was born in in Wiesbaden, Germany on July 6th, 1939 to Water and Marie Roth. Ursula built a life filled with faith, family, friends, music, and sports. Ursula lived in Wiesbaden until she came to the United States in 1958. Ursula was incredibly proud of getting her US Citizenship and passing her drivers test on the first attempt. She met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Hogenson, and together they built a life that included their four children, twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, with more on the way.

Ursula was well known for her friendliness and uncanny ability to converse with anyone (even with her strong German accent). She was an avid bowler, golfer, and card player. Ursula made the Bowling Hall of Fame and has many other accolades from her golfing and card-playing endeavors.

Family and friends were extremely important to Ursula. She was always up for a social gathering and usually ended up as the center of attention as people gravitated towards her. Often times these events coincided with a MN team sports event, where Ursula never wavered cheering on her Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, Gophers, or Winhawks. If it was an Olympic or Ryder Cup year, she proudly cheered on American athletes.

Ursula is survived by her children, Mary (Peter) Steffen, Heidi (Matthew) Niemeyer, Jon (Misha) Hogenson, and Heather (Jeffrey) Prondzinski; grandchildren, Bryan, Christopher, Sandy, Taylor, Harley, Brody, Aleece, Marina, Madeline, Ava, Brandt, Thomas; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Jonah, Leo, Eden, and Layla round out the family (for now). Ursula has two surviving siblings, Walter Roth and Waltraud "Bubbles" Petrichs, who reside in Wiesbaden, Germany. Ursula is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lenora (Hogenson) Boynton and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie; her husband, Bob; sister, Heidi (Carl) Jones, and sister-in-law, Ruth (Joe) Peplinski.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center at 2pm. A visitation will follow in the Event Center from 2:30pm to 6pm.
