Ruth Oashger

April 5, 1942 — December 1, 2023

Ruth Ann Oashger passed away peacefully in her La Crosse, Wisconsin home with her loving husband and daughters at her side on December 1. She was born on April 5, 1942 to Walter and Monica Baer in Neenah, Wisconsin and lived her entire life in the state, primarily in the Fox River Valley.

Ruth graduated from St. Mary's High School in Menasha, earned various certifications in real estate and finance. She married the love of her life, James G. Oashger on January 27, 1965. Together, they were an extraordinary example of a devoted couple, generous beyond belief in their love, unwavering support and dedication to their children and grandchildren.

Together with Jim, Ruth was the nucleus of a small, but tightly knit family. They prioritized faith and family, instilled a strong work ethic, and enjoyed attending their children and grandchildren's extracurricular activities and special occasions. Vacations were always family vacations, and included annual summer trips to Shady Shore Resort in northern Wisconsin, trips out West, train rides to both coasts and an Alaskan cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ruth appreciated colorful things - flowers in the spring and summer, autumn leaves and Christmas lights during the holiday season. This often resulted in family rides in the countryside and/or around town to check out displays. She was exceptionally skilled at sewing machine embroidery, personalizing clothing and creating beautiful works of art. Ruth was a voracious reader and liked playing cards, Yahtzee, and other games.

Ruth is survived by those she loved most dearly and deeply: her husband Jim, daughters Christine (Brad) Davis and Carrie (Keith) Herek, and grandchildren Ryan (Annie), Ally and Casey. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant granddaughter, Monica.

Ruth's family would like to thank Mayo Clinic Hospice for their excellent care and support. Additionally, Carrie deserves special mention for her steadfast, tender care, especially during Ruth's final days.

Ruth's immediate family are holding a private funeral service. Online condolences or memories may be left for Ruth's family at hofffuneral.com.  Memorials are preferred to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
