Ruth Esther (Wagner) Drewes

Ruth Esther Drewes of Chatfield passed away at her home on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

She was born to Herbert and Esther (Thiele) Wagner in Arlington, Wisconsin, on September 11, 1927, and grew up on the family farm, along with sister Marie and brother William.  After her graduation from high school, she and her sister worked at the Weyenberg Shoe Mfg. Co., In Morrisonville, WI.

She met her husband August Drewes, while he was visiting a cousin in Wisconsin.  They corresponded while he served over seas during World War II.  They were married October 23, 2046, and move to Rochester.  She worked as a housekeeper at the Rochester State Hospital for a number of years.  Ruth and August were blessed with two daughters.  In 1962 they moved to Chatfield, where she worked with her husband in his accounting office.

Ruth loved to bake, crochet and knit.  She loved spending time with family.  Her husband was in the care center in Chatfield for nine years and she never missed a day of being with him.

She is survived her daughters    Donna (Gary) Redwing of Chatfield, Daughter…Diana Lin Coats (husband Michael E. Coats) Byron, MN

Grandchildren…Elizabeth Draper (husband Brandon Draper) Eyota, MN

Matthew Coats (wife Amanda Coats) Port Charlotte, Florida

Great grandchildren Jolie and Boden Draper, Meridith and Opal Joyce, Paul Coats

Granddaughter; Jennifer (Sterling) Budd, Chatfield, and Great grandchildren Jamie, Shawn, and Trever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marie (Glen) Westfall, and her brother William (Mary) Wagner.

Visitation was held at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Graveside service was held Thursday, May 2,2024, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington, WI.
