Roger George Cook, 88, of Cape Coral, Florida passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026.
Roger was born to Joe and Alta Cook on November 13, 1937. He grew up in Plainview, Minnesota, later moving to St. Charles, Minnesota, where he graduated high school in 1955. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. He later worked as a bookkeeper for Frisch and Johnson and Rohr Chevrolet. Roger spent the last 30 years of his career at IBM. In his retirement, he was a school bus driver for Lee County Schools.
In 1956, Roger married Mary Garvey, with whom he welcomed three daughters Mindy, Barb, and Carol. After Mary’s death in 1989, Roger married Jan Maurek in 1994. They moved to Cape Coral in 1995, where he lived at the time of his passing.
Roger enjoyed fishing, camping, and keeping up with his beloved Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. He was dedicated to his faith and was deeply devoted to the parishes of St. Charles Borromeo and St. Andrew’s.
Roger loved his role as “Gramps,” as his grandchildren called him. He was an ever-present figure in each of their lives, often visiting, calling, and writing. He taught them the importance of faith, generosity, and a clean room. Roger’s love extended to his great grandchildren, as well, remembering birthdays and special interests for all 12 of them.
Roger is survived by his wife, Jan; his sister, Pat Fix; his daughters, Mindy Martin, Barb Hanna, and Carol Swiggum (Ron); his grandchildren, Joe Martin, Savannah Paight, Jill Sanders (Scott), Lindsey Stevens (Brandt), Sara Walters, Mary Swiggum (Jake Navarro), and Will Swiggum (Haley); and his great grandchildren Noelle, Annora, Peyton, Kennedy, Brayden, Jackson, Isabel, Caroline, Maggie, Reese, Annie, and Rosie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Alta, his wife, Mary, and his son-in-law, Chris Hanna.
A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2026, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles, Minnesota. Visitation will be at 10a.m. until the time of the service. Roger will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles.
