Robert John Gora, 79, of Winona, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Gundersen Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Robert was born on September 5, 1945, in Winona, MN, to Cyril and Eleanore Gora. He attended Winona High School and lived in Winona most of his life. He served in the military, Army, and was stationed in Korea for a tour of duty.
Robert spent his career for 32 years as a welder at Badger, formerly Warner & Swasey and 5 yrs at Thern, Inc. as a welder. Additionally, he would help Borkowski Towing when needed. He was a member at the Elks, VFW and Legion of Winona, MN. He enjoyed time with his family, siblings and daughter, as well as friends. You could find him hanging out with family and friends conversing about the good old days, racing, and many other topics. He was proud of his military service and supported/donated to veteran organizations as well as collecting Bald Eagle memorabilia. As for sports, he enjoyed watching Nascar, golf and football (Go Green Bay Packers). He proudly wore shirts, sweatshirts, jackets and hats displaying his support of veterans and sports teams.
He was a loving father who enjoyed time with his daughter as they would grab breakfast, go for drives in the local Winona area, go shopping, visit the Eagle Center in Wabasha or just hang out.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol Palubicki and sister Doris Schmitz.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Gora; siblings Donna Kleinschmidt (Gene), Patricia Thill (Lyle), Helen Carney, Debby Brabbit, Tom Gora (Eileen), Butch Gora (Trudie) and Richard “Dick” Gora (Marilyn), and Delores Blood.
There will be a visitation/celebration of life at Hoff Funeral in Winona, MN on Wednesday, June 25 from 4-8pm with appetizers. A future military service will be held at Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Preston, MN for family on June 26, 2025.
