Richard A. Lano, age 80, passed away peacefully, at home, in the early morning of June 2, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1946 to Ivan M. Lano and Dorothy R. (Myszka) Lano in Winona, MN. He graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1966 and Western
Wisconsin Technical College in 1968. He married Betsy (Burleigh) Lano in 1972. Together they had 4 children. Dick designed and built his home in the woods of Wisconsin on 35 acres of land in Chicken Valley. Dick’s talent for art and creativity with wood, made his home unique in its design. His artistic talents contributed to a successful career as a
photographer specializing in weddings, high school seniors, and family pictures. He owned Dick Lano Photography, a studio close to his home where he also displayed his nature and wildlife photography and many photographs of the Winona area. Nature and the
preservation of our natural resources and national parks was so important to him. Dick was the best father to his four children, taking them (and many of their friends) on special trips every year. He was a good-natured man, positive, encouraging, very hard working, resourceful, and friendly to all he met. He accepted every person for their individuality, never judging, always accepting. Dick was grateful for the friendships he had with his many friends throughout the years. Those friends sustained him in his last days.
Dick is survived by his wife Betsy, and children Tanya, Ryan, Dustin (Mindy), and Alicia (Kathrine), and grandchildren: Braelyn, Lucian, Mavis, Max, Daphne, Adelaide and one grandson due in July. He is further survived by his sisters; Eileen Myrick, Dorothy “Babe” (Michael) Sternisha, Margaret (Barney) Nownes, and brother-in-laws Mark Heymans and Kent (Monica) Burleigh, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents Ivan and Dorothy, and brothers Edward Lano and Charlie Lano. and brother-in-laws; Chuck Myrick and Donn Burleigh and by his niece Kari Maeser.
Sincere gratitude to the support of Moments Hospice for their compassionate care.
There will be a visitation on Friday, June 12, from 3:00 – 4:30pm at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Winona. There will be a time to share memories of Dick beginning at 4:30pm.
