In Loving Memory of Patricia Gale (Randall) Hetland
Patricia Gale (Randall) Hetland, affectionately known as Patti, passed away peacefully in Houston, Minnesota on October 1, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and lifelong admirer of animals and nature, she leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wit, and unwavering love.
Patti was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Fred Dwain ‘Doc’ and Jesse ‘Gale’ Randall on February 20, 1944. At a young age, her family relocated to Mitchell, South Dakota, where her parents founded and operated the successful Midwest grocery store chain, Randall Foods, Inc. She was raised with strong values of hard work, independence, and close family bonds.
Patti graduated from St. Katherine’s Preparatory School in Davenport, Iowa and went on to attend Woodbury Business College in Los Angeles, California. While home for Christmas break, she met the love of her life, Harvey ‘Hal’ Hetland, on a blind date. They were married on May 2, 1964 and celebrated 60 years of marriage before Hal’s passing in September 2024.
A devoted stay-at-home mother, Patti raised two daughters with care, strength and fierce devotion. She was known for her quick wit, sharp mind, and a daily crossword puzzle rarely left unfinished. Patti had a deep affection for animals, especially her beloved dogs and birds. Hummingbirds held a special place in her heart. She found immense joy in feeding wildlife and observing the rhythms of nature on the family’s farmland, where she felt most at peace.
She is survived by her loyal dog, Velda, cat, Boo, her two daughters: Patrice (Chad) Nelson of Houston, Minnesota and Tiffany Gale (Paul) Barth of Raleigh, North Carolina; her brother, Ron (Charlys) Randall of Mitchell, South Dakota; her five grandchildren; Angelika Gale (Ryan) Nelson of Minneapolis, MN; Axel Barth of Bozeman, MT; Gunnar (Savannah) Nelson of Cross Lake, MN; Astrid (Tian) Siggins of Hilton Head Island, SC; Tor Nelson of Minneapolis, MN; and one great grandson, Trygve Nelson.
Patti will be remembered for her fierce spirit, her deep love for the land, and her unwavering devotion to God and family.
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607
