Owen Rainey

Owen Dale Rainey gained his angel wings on August 1, 2025. Owen was surrounded by his family and friends at St. Mary's hospital prior to his heavenly departure. His final act of kindness on earth was the donation of his organs to help save others.

Owen was born on February 26, 1956, in Nevada, Iowa, to Louise and Calvin Rainey. When he was nineteen years old, he met the love of his life, Pat. Their love story evolved quickly, and they recently celebrated 47 years of marriage on July 8. Together, they created a family and made hay, along with many other farm-related chores, East of Troy until 2020. Farming was the perfect occupation for Owen; he loved caring for the land and being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son-in-laws and grandson. He had a tremendous passion for woodworking and was incredibly skilled with a lathe. He was a generous teacher, whether it was a card game or a lesson about humility, he always, always, looked out for his family and guided them through teachable moments. He could do anything and fix almost everything. He was talented beyond measure.

Owen, Dad, Papa, G-Pa, was the family's rock. His family, and especially his grandchildren, were his greatest joy. He was patient, honest, trustworthy, generous, and kind. He lived in the present and one of his favorite activities was enjoying good bourbon on the boat while watching the sun go down.

Owen is survived by his wife, Pat (Schultz), and his daughters Heather (Bo) Nessler, Jessica (Ryan) Vatland, and his grandchildren, Dempsey, Finnley, Rylan, and Sawyer, his brother Darrell (Cheryl) Rainey, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother.

To celebrate Owen and his incredible legacy, the family will be hosting a brief memorial service at 10:30 am, followed by a party in Owen's honor until 3 pm on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at The Garage in St. Charles. Instead of flowers, we ask that you consider what is meaningful to you and your family, and honor that through a donation or gift to that charity or organization.
