Orvin Sweningson

Orvin Johnny Sweningson, 95, of Winona, Minnesota, and formerly of Utica, Minnesota, passed away on May 31, 2026.

Orvin was born on September 10, 1930, on a farm in Utica, Minnesota, to John and Grace (Connaughty) Sweningson. He was a successful dairy farmer who worked what he often said was "the most fertile land you ever saw." Orvin married Doris Hoppe on February 12, 1953. They were married for 66 years before Doris passed away on May 2, 2019. Together, they had seven children.

Orvin is survived by his children, Janice (Michael) Fusco, Roger (Leslie) Sweningson, Ronnie (Dawn) Sweningson, and Jeffrey (Jackie) Sweningson; his grandchildren, Cory (Cindy), Trevor (Tasha), Heather, Ryan (Angelica), Kyle (Savannah), Eric (Mandy), Blake, Logan, Shawn (Rachel), Brandon, and Tyler; and his great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Sydney, Shelby, Thomas, Adah, River Rose, and Alexander. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, and his children, Rick, Randy, and Julie.

Orvin loved football, and of course, the Vikings were his team. He often said he was getting tired of saying, "Maybe next year we'll go to the Super Bowl." Still, he never gave up hope and always looked forward to the new season. Sundays couldn't come soon enough.

Orvin was such a hardworking man. He loved being a farmer and was sad when he and Doris retired in 1992. He thought he would be able to relax after retirement, but if you knew Orvin, you knew that "relax" was not in his vocabulary. Most importantly, Orvin was a proud American who loved Minnesota and his farm. He especially loved the song "God Bless the U.S.A." because it mentions the lakes of Minnesota. He always got emotional when the song was played. He often told his family that he lived in "God's Country," and he meant it with all his heart. He was a great man who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Service will be on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles, MN at 2pm with a visitation beginning at 1pm. Orvin will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles, MN.
