Nylene Garnet Jones, 93, of La Crescent died Thursday, February 15th at Bethany on Cass in Lacrosse. Nylene was born August 9, 1924 in Blue Earth to Clayton and Garnet (Stewart) Johnson. She moved with her family as a child to Sioux Rapids, IA. In 1942 she graduated from Marathon High School. Following high school Nylene completed secretarial training at Community Extension in Omaha. She and Gordon Jones were married January 20, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their home in Rembrandt, IA. They moved to Osakis to farm for a short time. After farming, Nylene and Gordon ran two newspapers, one in South Dakota and one in Lewiston. Later they began careers at Camera Art in Lewiston. On June 30, 1986, Nylene and Gordon retired from Camera Art and enjoyed spending winters in Texas. They moved to La Crescent in 2012. Gordon died December 13, 2012. In September 2016, Nylene entered Bethany on Cass Assisted Living.
Nylene enjoyed archery, bowling, shooting pool, reading and playing bingo.
Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Slayton of La Crescent; grandchildren, Cindy (Clair) Angland, Alicia (Ray) Olschewski, Amber (Troy) Castle, Amanda (Aaron) Gust; great-grandchildren, Carter, Cooper, Brady, Peyton, Paxton, Gavin, and Kennedy; a son-in-law Ron Kieffer; one sister, Vera Klindt, two brothers Eugene Johnson and Ronald Johnson (Sandy Tucker); special friends, Bob and Jean Raz of Winona. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, a daughter, Debra Kieffer, son-in-law, Thomas Slayton; sisters Ina (Howard) Sheets, Delores (Robert) Sierck, a brother-in-law Harold Klindt, and a sister-in-law Shirley Jane Johnson.
Services to remember Nylene will be at 1 p.m. Monday at La Crescent United Methodist Church with the Reverend Aaron Justice officiating. Friends may call from noon until time of services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Lewiston Public Cemetery in the spring. Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview/ Winona is assisting the family with arrangements.
