Nancy Thieret

May 23, 1951 — August 27, 2025

Winona

Nancy J. Thieret (Abrahams) passed away at home on Wednesday, August 27th with her family by her side at the age of 74.

Nancy was born in Minneapolis to Don and Phyllis (Lea) Abrahams. The oldest of four siblings and only daughter, Nancy grew up in Bloomington during a time when suburban kids ran carefree, chasing the neighborhood boys, and staying outside until it was time for supper. She also loved her days playing with cousins, aunts and uncles and visiting her grandmother on the Lea farm, in Fillmore County, a house filled with joy and laughter.

Nancy met her husband Bob while helping start the North Country Food Co-op in Minneapolis. She admired his ability to be true to himself - buying Cheetos even when surrounded by vegans. After marrying, Bob and Nancy followed their "back-to-the-landers" dream, buying a farm in Fillmore County. From 1972-77, through the arrival of her two eldest children, Nancy learned how to "rough it", drawing water from the well pump and cooking on a wood stove. Nancy worked hard in her garden, caring for chickens, milking a goat and making her house a home, all while raising 5 children.

In 1973, Nancy became one of Jehovah's Witnesses along with her husband Bob. She loved sharing her faith with others and she was a member of the Winona Congregation.

In 1996, Bob and the family built a new homestead in Wilson Township. Nancy and Bob's creativity made the house into a fun and cozy home. Nancy loved to collect treasures from garage sales, art made by her family, and fairy gardens. She was always surrounded by children, her own grandkids and more. Nancy always put children first, giving them her undivided attention and care - teaching them how to cook, sew, garden, and anything else they wanted to learn. She was always working on a project. She spent her final days giving away crafty projects she made: necktie purses, aprons, quilts - the list goes on. Nancy had a natural sense of humor, making us all laugh even when she didn't mean to.

We will remember her from her kindness, generosity, and the time she gave us all. May her patience, light-heartedness, and positivity live on through everyone she touched. The family wishes to thank the hematology, oncology and hospice teams from Gunderson for the compassionate care shown to Nancy in her final days. We are also grateful to all the friends who delivered food, sent cards and flowers, dog sat, and supported our family as we said goodbye.Nancy leaves behind her mother, Phyllis Abrahams, husband, Bob (Robert), son Joel (Nelly), daughters Sarah (Heath), Rena (Justin), Laura (Manny), and Becca (Brent), 12 beautiful grandchildren, brothers Tommy and Dave Abrahams, countless cousins and beloved friends and her loving dog, Winnie. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Abrahams, brother Kirk Abrahams and niece Christine Abrahams.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13th at 2pm at the Lanesboro Community Center, 202 Parkway Ave S in Lanesboro. Visitation will be from noon-2pm. Food will be served in Nancy's honor after the service.
