RUSHFORD, MINN. - Michael S. Barry, 63, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at his home in Rushford, Minn. Mike was born September 30, 1944, to Robert and Thelma (Hoiland) Barry in Portland, Oregon. They later moved to Rushford where Mike grew up. Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He served from Nov. 1961 to Nov. 1964, spending one year in Korea. He married Eileen LaFleur on December 7, 1974, in Rushford. Mike worked construction, was a self-employed carpenter, drove truck for Carlson Ready Mix, Cortland Humble, Root River Hardwoods, Buffalo Tie and Ken Breitsprecker. He was a past member of the Root River Saddle Club and loved working with horses most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Mike enjoyed growing tomatoes and making salsa, homemade wine and jelly. Survivors include his wife, Eileen; son Jesse Barry of Winona, Minn.; daughters: Jaime Barry (Kyle Himlie) of Peterson, Minn. and Julie Barry (Bob Stennes) of Rushford. Five grandchildren: Miranda, Taylor, Jacob, Emily and Jayden; sister: Roberta Laumb of St. Charles, Minn.; brother, Joe (Helen) Barry of Rushford; many nieces and nephews; and "very special friends", Ronald (Mike) Colbenson, Jerry (Smoky) Hovland, Wayne Exe and Duane Bunke. There will be a memorial service for Mike at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel with funeral celebrant, John Wagenaar officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
