Maureen Kay Murphy Hurley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on Friday, October 10th, surrounded by family and love. She was born on November 18, 1953, to Bernie and Mary Anna Kennedy. Maureen adored her mother, Mary Anna, who was her closest friend and confidante, and she lovingly cared for her during the final years of her life.
Maureen grew up in Lewiston, where she attended high school and graduated in 1972. She was active in many clubs and proudly served as a majorette in the marching band. Her vibrant spirit and joyful energy made her a bright presence in every room she entered.
Maureen began her nursing career after becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Her compassion and dedication to caring for others guided her through decades of service in skilled nursing and later at the Mayo Clinic, where she worked across many departments before finishing her career in dermatology. Nursing was truly her calling—she cared for each patient with empathy, kindness, and her signature warm smile. The friendships she built through her work were abundant and lasting, and she was deeply grateful for the lifelong connections that enriched her life.
Maureen’s first marriage to Gary Zeibell brought her two cherished children, Andrea (Nick Frison) and Zach Ziebell (Christine). She was a proud and loving mother and later, an adoring grandmother to Jasper and Zoe. She loved talking with Andrea and Zach almost every day, hearing about their adventures, and sharing those stories with everyone around her. She truly treasured her children and found immense joy in their lives. Her family was her greatest pride and happiness, and she was immensely proud of all their accomplishments.
In 2001, Maureen married the love of her life, Michael James Hurley. Together, they shared 24 wonderful years filled with laughter, companionship, and music. They loved hosting parties, spending time with dear friends, cuddling their dogs, and singing along to the oldies. With this marriage, the family grew larger with stepchildren Pat Hurley (Michele) and Courtney Graham (Blake), and step-grandchildren Collin, Brooke, Mason, and Taryn.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Andrea (Nick) and Zach (Christine); her grandchildren, Jasper and Zoe; her siblings, Patty Stark (Richard), Bernie Joe Kennedy (Karla), John Kennedy (Peggy), and Jim Kennedy (Talithe); and her many nieces and nephews who each held a special place in her heart.
Those who knew Maureen will remember her as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who could talk for hours and make anyone feel seen and loved. Her endless conversations, quick wit, and genuine heart will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
