Mary Yvonne Speltz

May 2, 1940 — Jun 10, 2026

Winona

Mary Yvonne Speltz passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Mary was a faithful Catholic, hard worker, and loved being part of a large family with eleven siblings.

Mary graduated from Lewiston High School and then worked at Marigold Dairies, where she met her future husband, Joseph Speltz. They married on August 6, 1960. Mary was a homemaker and worked for many years at Bauer’s Market.

Mary found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She liked to garden, read, can, and bake. Mary cherished moments spent with family, often playing checkers with her grandkids, completing puzzles, and sharing her love for games. Mary played many games of Euchre over the years and was blessed with being very lucky. Her competitive spirit extended beyond family games, as Mary spent many hours in the stands cheering for children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in their many sports, and watching her beloved (if sometimes frustrating) Minnesota Twins. Mary also liked exploring craft sales and shopping.

Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph; children, Sandra (Patrick) Moline, Sharon (Jeffrey) Waterman, Sheryl (Jeffrey) Lisowski, and Darrell (Heather) Speltz; grandchildren, Joshua (Knoit) Moline, Matthew (Devin) Moline, Sarah Waterman, Rachel Waterman, Jena Lisowski, Jordan Lisowski (Aurora Bertola), Aurora, Mariela, Cassandra, and Emerson Speltz; great grandchildren, Adler, Beau, Morgan, Winston, Hattie, and Josie Moline; brothers, Timothy Burns, William Burns, Dennis (Donna) Burns, and James (Sue) Burns; brother-in-law, Lawrence Putzier; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Thecla Burns; grandson, Connery Speltz; sisters, Rita Norton, Thecla Bauer, Darleen Schossow, and Kathleen Putzier; brothers, Anthony Burns, Patrick Burns, and George Burns; sisters-in-law, Mary Burns, Nell Burns, Marian Burns, Gloria Burns, and Janet Burns; and brothers-in-law, Elmer “Roy” Heubner, Robert Schossow, Frank Norton, and John Bauer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (1303 W. Broadway St., Winona, MN), with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
