Marlys Mae Schultz

June 6, 1932 – July 5, 2025

Marlys Mae Schultz, born Marlys Mae Burt in Utica, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July

5, 2025, at the age of 93. She was the eldest of twelve children born to Evelyn and Marvin Burt,

both of whom preceded her in death.

In 1949, Marlys married William “Bill” Schultz, and together they built a life on a farm near

Altura, Minnesota, where she lived for the rest of her life. Though she held many jobs outside

the home throughout the years, her heart remained on the farm—raising chickens, tending to

her large garden, and enjoying the peaceful rhythm of country life.

Marlys was a devoted mother of eight children. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill

in 1994 and by two sons, Bill and Bob. She is survived by six children: Julie Gibbs (Henry), Joni

Schultz (Jim Schaefer), Susie Mitchell (Cam), Mary Kreidermacher (Paul), Rosey Jones (Tim),

and Tim Schultz (Lonnie). She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren: Michelle

Marxhausen, Hollie Neitzke, Mike Gibbs, Heather LaTorre, Hiddie Stromberg, Hilery Horton,

Haley Wojahn, Heath Kreidermacher, Hunter Kreidermacher, Adam Kreidermacher, Sam

Kreidermacher, Tiffany Jones, and Andy Schultz. She is also lovingly remembered by her many

great-grandchildren.

Marlys is survived by four of her siblings: Kay Sorenson, Linda Duellman, Pat Patzner, and Jim

Burt. She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Dorothy Bronner, Donald Burt, Shirley

Spitzer, Merlin Burt, Roger Burt, Judy Sanders, and John Burt.

Those who knew Marlys will remember her as a quiet, kind-hearted woman whose gentle

presence left a lasting impression. She was well liked by all who worked with her, and her life

was a reflection of patience, humility, and unwavering love for her family and the land she

called home.

Private services will be held for Marlys.
