Marlow Boyum

Marlow Kenwood Boyum, 95, passed away at Good Shepherd Lutheran Nursing Home on February 25th, 2026.

Born April 1st, 1930, in rural Peterson, MN to John and Gertrude Boyum. He was the oldest of 6 children. He graduated from Peterson High School in 1948 and went on to serve in the Army during the Korean War from November 1953 to September 1955.

On August 3rd, 1957, Marlow was united in marriage to Darlean Mae Nietz. They were blessed with 6 children: Kalleen, Mark, Randy, Peter, David, and Lynn. In 1964, Marlow and Darlean moved to the farm where they milked cows and raised beef cattle and hogs. Darlean passed away in March of 1975.

On October 23rd, 1998, Marlow married Beverly Ann Paulson and they were married for 22 years. You could always find them cheering on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren whether it was at sporting events or at the county fair. Beverly passed away in May of 2020.

He was a member of the Peterson Legion, a member of the Pilot Mound Township, and an Arendahl Lutheran Church Trustee for many years.

He is survived by Kelly (Mike) Lawstuen, Randy (Karolyn) Boyum, Peter (Julie) Boyum, David Boyum, Lynn (Lisa) Boyum, stepson Pete (Rita) Crow, and stepchildren Debbie (Brad) Erickson, Nancy (Tim) Williams, Chuck (Kari) Paulson. Grandchildren Matt (Amy) Lawstuen, Michelle (Kraig) Kapfhamer, Mark Lawstuen, John (Megan) Boyum, Joe (Carrie) Boyum, Jessica (Taylor) Montgomery, Luke (Josie) Boyum, Morgan (Ty) Knutson, Logan Boyum, Jeff (Danielle) Boyum, Eric (Moriah) Boyum, Lauren Boyum and Dereck Boyum. Step-granddaughter Lauren (Hogan) Jones, 8 step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way and 18 step-great-grandchildren. His Sister Bertha Boyum, brother Paul (Shari) Boyum, and sisters-in-law Gail Boyum and Kathy (Milton) Hallum as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marlow was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Darlean, his second wife Bev, a son Mark, sisters Mary Jane and Joyce, brothers Donald and Arne, and step-grandson David Crow, sisters and brothers in law: Elaine Luehmann, Bud Nietz, Arvid Nietz, Darwin Nietz, Allen Hatlevig, Ronnie Hatlevig and Luella Brown.

Memorials can be directed to the Peterson American Legion, Arendahl Lutheran Church, or the Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 5, at 11am at Arendahl Lutheran church with a visitation for friends and neighbors from 9am to 11am prior to the service. Lunch to follow in the basement. Burial will take place at the Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Good Shepherd Lutheran Nursing Home for all their hard work and support throughout his time staying there.
