Marland L. Beeman

Marland LaVonne Beeman passed away at home surrounded by family and Hospice Care Friday, September 4, 2020. Known to friends as Marla and Lovey by family, Marla was a United States Air Force wife and mother who traveled the world and raised two children in the adventurous uncertainty of military transfers. She was always the anchor of home, love, laughter and security when a new assignment for the family might be coming home for dinner on any given night.

Marla was born in Minneapolis, MN June 23, 1926 to James and Mabel (Quale) Bolinger. She married her high school sweetheart and handsome soldier in a Marine uniform at Highland Park Presbyterian Church January 8, 1945. She and Daniel were married 64 years until his death in 2009.

Marla and Dan traveled the world from the Berlin Airlift and tours of duty in Munich, Germany and Madrid, Spain, and many bases throughout the United States. Together they had two children Barbara Denine Beeman of Winona and Daniel Davis Beeman and his wife, Sharon of Grapevine, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Sean Paul Beeman and his wife Heather of Tampa, Florida and Daniel Ryan Beeman of Austin, Texas; great-grandsons, Andrew and Braden Beeman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marla also leaves behind her beloved Bichon Frise, Wally, the last of many canine companions.

Marla was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sisters, Virginia, Winifred, Connie; and brothers, Glen, James, and David. She was the last of her primary family of nine.

Marla loved family and several close friends made over years of military adventures who stayed in close touch. She was a card and game player and a lady with just enough spunk to be engaging, confidential, very funny and a real treat to be around. She was a loving Mom, Grandma, and a great best friend. Marla was a member of the family of First Congregational Church which she very much loved.

As a family we are very grateful to the Winona Health staff that hovered like angels in room 222. We are especially grateful to the amazing Hospice staff who moved with the speed of Heaven to bring Mom home for the last leg of her life journey so we could all be together in the end. Special thanks for your competence and gentle kindness. We can't thank you all enough.

A celebration of Marla's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, September 12, 2021 at First Congregational Church UCC. Masks are required. Marla's ashes will be scattered with Dan's at memorable places they both shared along with those of devoted dogs they loved.
