Marianne Hohenner, age 84, of Winona, MN passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at her home with her husband and two sons by her side, from a short battle with cancer.
Marianne was born August 9, 1941, in Winona, MN, to Berton and Wynnafred (Kuhlmann) Duffy. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1959 and then joined the U.S. Navy. While stationed near Washington, D.C. she met and married her husband Harro Hohenner on August 7, 1965. She also attended the University of Maryland. They were blessed with two sons, Hans Edmond and Andrew Wilhelm.
Marianne had a passion for gardening and was active as a Master Gardener in California and Minnesota.
She was known for her warm and social nature. Her genuine kindness and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Music was important in Marianne’s life from playing clarinet in the high school band to playing handbells her entire life.
Above all, Marianne’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, sharing in both life’s challenges and celebrations, weaving a tapestry of memories that will be treasured forever.
Marianne is survived by her husband, Harro, son Hans Edmond (wife Margaret), son Andrew Wilhelm (wife Erin); grandchildren Erie, Johann, and Jacob; sisters Donna Goede and Linda Walzon. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-laws Gerald Goede and William Walzon.
She had many pets throughout her life that she cherished, with the last one being Yeti.
Her life with Harro and sons took them from the East Coast to the West Coast (California) with a two year assignment in London, England.
Marianne work at a number of companies, primarily Apple Computer. Where she was responsible for all printed matter distributed by Apple Computer.
Harro and Marianne moved to Winona in 2006.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
