Marcella C. Peterson

Marcella C. Peterson of St. Charles, Minnesota, passed away on 24 October 2021 at the age of 102 at her home in St. Charles. Marcella Carmen Larsen was born on 10 January 1919 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Emil and Mamie (Nelson) Larsen. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1936 and worked in various offices there. She married Bruce Melton in Denver, Colorado on 19 March 1947. They lived in various locations because of his career in the Air Force. They were later divorced and Marcella and her son Kirt James Melton moved back to her home town of Albert Lea, Minnesota. Marcella found employment in the office of Speltz Grain Company. She married Perry Mervin Peterson in Albert Lea on 19 September 1952. One son, Perry Lee Peterson, was born to this union. The family farmed together in the Geneva area from 1957 to 1973. In 1973 they moved to Owatonna, Minnesota where Marcella worked in the office of Federated Insurance Company until her retirement. In later years they moved to St. Charles, Minnesota to be near family.
Marcella was a member of St. Matthew's Church in St. Charles. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, gardening, and caring for her flowers and house plants. Most of all she enjoyed riding her scooter around town during nice weather. Marcella is survived by her sons, Kirt (Beverly) Melton of St. Charles and Perry (Kathy) Peterson of Plymouth, Minnesota; grandchildren, Christopher, Christian and Zachary Melton, Jeffrey (Jarica) Peterson, Rebecca Ruud, and Victoria (Jon) Mathisen; great-grandchildren, Lucille, Harriet, and Lena Ruud as well as Peter and Caleb Mathisen, and Zurilyn Peterson.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Perry; parents; granddaughter, Maria Melton; one brother and sister-in-law, Burnette and Helen (Kasparek) Larson; step-mother, Annie Larson.
A Funeral Service for Marcella will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. Matthew Church of St. Charles with Pastor William Meilner officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at church from 10-11 AM on Friday. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea, Minnesota. The Hoff Funeral Home of St. Charles is assisting Marcella's family with arrangements.
