LeRoy (Roy) George WiseSept. 28, 1920 — Aug. 21, 2003ROLLINGSTONE, Minn. — LeRoy (Roy) George Wise of Rollingstone, and at the time of his death residing at Lake Winona Manor, passed into his eternal home in heaven Aug. 21, 2003.He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in rural Rollingstone. Roy was the oldest child of Julius and Margaret Neins Wise.He is survived by his wife, Marcella (Marce); three daughters, Judi (Jack) Rader of Winona, Sharon (Jerry) Styba of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Marilyn (Tom) Cavil of Dodge Center, Minn.; two brothers and three sisters, LaVern (Rose) Wise of Brainerd, Minn., Julius (Shirley) Wise of Rollingstone, Lucille Speltz of Rollingstone, Jeanne Ehmke of Maple Grove, Minn., and Delores (Jack) Kriedermacher of Rollingstone; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Roy was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its St. Nicholas Society. Roy also was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Winona.On Sept. 2, 1944, he married Marcella Speltz in Rollingstone. Roy served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and Pearl Harbor.Throughout his life, he was proud to be an American and a U.S. Marine. Prior to World War II, he worked at Winona Motor Co. and returned to employment there after his service to his country to become shop foreman.In 1953 he joined brother-in-law, Barney Speltz in partnership of Speltz Meat Market in Rollingstone. Barney and Roy were well-known in the area for the production of savory sausages and tripen. After the sale of Speltz Meat Market, Roy worked as custodian at Cathedral Parish in Winona and then part-time as janitor at Merchants Bank in Winona. Roy continued to process meat out of his home.Roy was a standout baseball player for the Marine Corps baseball team and the Rollingstone Merchants baseball team. He was a member of the 1953 Rollingstone Merchants team that won the Minnesota Amateur Class B Baseball Championship. Roy was an avid sports fan and together with his wife enjoyed watching and listening to the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.A Eucharistic celebration of his life will be held at Rollingstone Holy Trinity Church at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, with the Rev. Michael Cronin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, where there will be a Christian Prayer service at 7:30 p.m.Friends also may call Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Winona County Alzheimer's Association
