LeRoy Kanz, Sr.

LeRoy Francis Kanz, Sr., age 89, went to be with his loved ones on August 18,2025.

He was born July 23, 1936 to Joseph and Isabelle (Verdick) Kanz. On July 25, 1959 he married Janelle Westberg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona. He was employed at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Woodlawn Cemetery, and the West End Rec Center.

LeRoy is survived by his sons: William, James (Carol), and John (Pam) Kanz; honorary daughter, Bonnie (Ron) Muras; daughter-in-law, Brenda Kanz-Martin; grandchildren: Bridget (Nick) Bruns, Jenifer (Devin) Kanz-Dugan, Brittney (Josh) Sovinski, Seth Anderson, Adam (Tara) Bellman, Jessica (Eric) Burkhalter, Tyler (Kasi) Muras, and Adam Muras; great-grandchildren: Haylee, Chase, Airabella, and Jaxson Bruns, Skylynn Kanz, Callie, Blake, and Liam Anderson, Hayden (Kelsey) Kort, and Aksel Bellman, Tyler Burkhalter, Brandon Burkhalter , Rian Burkhalter, Jaxson Burkhalter, and Jace Muras; great-great-grandchildren: Jaxtyn, and Wilder Bellman.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janelle; sons, LeRoy Kanz, Jr., and Arthur Kanz, and siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 11:00am at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Visitation will be prior to the service at church from 9:00-11:00am. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona. In honor of his many years of service at Woodlawn, LeRoy will get a Last Ride around the cemetery and all are invited to follow in the procession around the cemetery grounds before arriving at LeRoy’s final resting place.
