St. Charles, Leora Marie Evans, 86, of St. Charles died Wednesday August 6, 2008 at her home. She was born January 1, 1922 in Rollingstone to Herbert and Mary (Maringer) Lehnertz. Leora graduated from the Dover School in 1940 and moved to Chicago where she met George Evans. They were married August 11, 1940 in Chicago. Leora and George moved to St. Charles where she worked for many years at St. Charles Bakery and as a waitress at the Cottage Inn and Travelers Café. Leora's life was centered on volunteering to help others. She belonged to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and was involved in the Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters and Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and working on jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include her husband George, five children; Marie (Joe) Vicere of PawPaw, MI, Edward (Cathy) Evans, John Evans, Richard Evans and Shirley (Gary) Neumann, all of St. Charles, two former daughters-in-law Joyce Evans and Shirley Evans, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, a brother Robert (Joan) Lehnertz, four sisters, Iona Holland of Minneapolis, Doreen Kerrigan of Rochester, Maryann Siebenaler of St. Charles and Elvira Krier of Rochester. She was preceded in death by a grandson Tony and a brother Francis. A Funeral Mass will be 11AM Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with The Reverend James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Monday.
