LaVerne Thill

LaVerne Thill, 86, of Winona passed away July 4, 2026. He was born February 4, 1940, in Winona to Louis and Laura Thill. Graduated from Cotter High School and married Linda Ceballos in 1974.

Vern was a farmer his whole life, with a special love for pigs and Brown Swiss cattle. He especially loved watching his kids show them at the local county fair and Minnesota State Fair. And later in life was lucky enough to have a couple of the grand kids show Brown Swiss too! He loved everything about the county and state fair even on his last days would ask about the fair coming up. When he wasn't farming he found joy in taking his family out on their Glasspar boat on the Mississppi. Vern was an avid bowler. And to take a break from farming would take the family on a yearly trip to Hawaii.

Vern is survived by his wife, Linda; and his children: Tony (Beth), Lance, Valerie (Dave), Mark and Victoria (Matt); and his four granddaughters: Cassie, Miranda, Emma and Madelyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sisters.

There will be a gathering to celebrate his life on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 1-3pm at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Winona.

We would like to give a HUGE thank you to the hired help that let him farm as long as he did, especially Barney, Marty, Morning Rick and Night Rick.
