Larry Tiedemann

November 2, 1953 — April 19, 2023

Larry Emil Tiedemann, 69, of Lewiston, MN, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer.

Larry was born November 2, 1953 to Ralph and Dorene Tiedemann. He grew up in Plainview, MN and graduated from Plainview High School. Larry attended Bemidji State University and Winona Technical College, where he earned a degree in drafting. On August 16, 1975, he married the love of his life, Vicki Lynn Forland. They made their home in rural Lewiston until moving to German Ridge in 1992.

He founded Minnesota Drafting and Design in the 1980’s which grew into a design to build shop, including design, model building, and plastic injection molding. Later he was involved with his own archery product design company and was involved with other recreational product pursuits. During his career, he was awarded several patents.

His priorities in life were God, Family, and hunting. He has been a member of St. John’s since 1978 holding several positions on the board throughout the years. He took so much pride in his grandkids and bragged about them every chance he had. He loved spending time hunting and fishing with family and especially enjoyed seeing the next generation enjoy his hobbies.

Larry was a man who had many nicknames throughout his life. During his young years, he was called Lambert, and sometimes Nicodemus. During his college years in Bemidji, the nickname most commonly used was Mandelo. When he was a bit older, friends called him Rosco. He was also known as FaFa by a favorite toddler. For another period of time, he was called JR by co-workers because of the number of used pickup trucks he bought and sold. His hunting buddies referred to him as “LT,” “Mountain Man,” or “Wolfman.” Of all of these endearing nicknames, his favorite was Grandpa WeWe, given to him by his beloved grandchildren, who simply couldn’t say Larry when they were young.

He lived his life with great selflessness and humility. Larry had a life well lived.

Larry is survived by his wife, Vicki Lynn Tiedemann, of 47 years; daughter, Sarah (Eric) Slaby; sons, Jess (Amy) Tiedemann, Matthew Tiedemann, and Marc Tiedemann; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Tiedemann, Callie Tiedemann, Dominic Slaby, and Elyse Tiedemann; mother, Dorene Tiedemann; siblings, Tom (Vicki Ann) Tiedemann, Ellie Tiedemann, Susie Mahn, and Paula (Rick) Mueske; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by father, Ralph Tiedemann and extended family, John (World Class) and Shirley Micheel.

The family would like to thank Winona Area Hospice for their kindness and outstanding care.
