June Peterson

St. Charles

June M. Peterson, 97, of St. Charles, passed away March 11, 2023 at Winona Health, surrounded by her Loving Family.  June was born June 22, 1925 in Winona, to Clarence and Pearl (Knoll) Wanek. She Graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1943. She then married Bennie A. Peterson December 4, 1943, in Jacksonville, FL; she was a World War II Bride. After Bennie returned from the Army, they lived in Winona, Goodview, Rochester, Hayfield, Lewiston & Winona again, before moving to St. Charles. In Lewiston, she and Bennie Farmed for almost 5 years. Otherwise, June was a Stay at Home Mom of 7, caring for her 1 Handicapped son Paul for almost 50 years, and another 11 years after Paul had to move into a Nursing Home;  she went to see him every Tuesday.

June was loving, caring, giving and everyone explains her as a very sweet little lady, with a fun sense of Humor. She loved her family dearly, she loved cooking, baking and canning to care for them, and she loved to Dance with her Bennie.  She loved to be with her family, and friends. She loved to read and have lunch at her "regular" place, Good Sport Bar & Grill. She was always called Momma June, June Bug or Miss June by the many people who Loved her.

Survivors include her children:  Suzanne (Bud) Kampa Wackwitz of Eau Claire, WI, Alan (Diane) Peterson of Eyota, Mary (Brian) Biske of Paliside, Robert Peterson of Stewartville, Jane (Michael) Hughes of St. Charles and Son-in-law Stanley O'Brien of Hayfield. 26 Grandchildren: Ann, Colleen, Mary, Melissa, Matthew, Paul, Emily (O'Brien), Erik, Lisa, Heath, Brenna (Kampa), John, Peter, James, Thomas, Marie (Peterson) Carrie, Kristina (Hengel) Bennie, Sara, Beau, Jessica (Peterson) Nicholas, Stefanie, Brandon and Molly (Hughes), 65 Great Grandchildren and 17 Great Great Grandchildren. 

June was preceded in death by her husband Bennie in 1997, daughter Caryl O'Brien in 2020, son Paul Peterson in 2022, son-in-law Wayne Kampa in 1995 and great grand-daughter Ella Woslager in 2019.  Her parents Clarence Wanek, and John and Rose Miller, and in-laws Julia and Peter Peterson. Brothers: Robert, Frances, and Raymond. Sisters: Claire, Margaret and Gertrude. Brothers-in-laws: Wilmer, Kenneth, Robert and Sigmund  Sisters-in-law: Fern, Dorothy, Ruby, Ruth and Bonnie. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 16, 2023, proceeding Visitation at 10:00 am, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Reverend Tim Biren Officiating.  Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona, MN.  Hoff Funeral Service of St. Charles is assisting the family with arrangements. www.hofffuneral.com.
