Julie Ann Haessig

May 10, 1956 — January 20, 2019

Julie Ann Haessig, 62, of Trempealeau, WI, formerly of Winona, died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at her home. Julie was born May 10, 1956 in Rochester, MN to Morris "Sonny" and Carmen (Stiles) Atkinson. She was raised in Rochester, growing up one of four children, and attended John Marshall High School. After high school she pursued a degree in early education at Winona State. While in school she met James Haessig. The two of them fell deeply in love and were married on December 3, 1977. After the wedding, Julie finished her degree and began teaching at St. Martins School in Winona. She also worked at the Winona Nursery School, Benchmark, and La Crosse County before retiring. After her retirement she continued to work as a secretary at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Faith and love were always a big part of everything she did. Julie and Jim were long time members at St. Matthews in Winona where she was involved with Senior Choir and Bells of Praise. After moving to Trempealeau 17 years ago, they joined Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church and remained active in the choir and many groups within the church. They had two children, Clayton and Jennifer. She taught them her core values of faith, love, and service. Julie was very talented at crocheting and made many different blankets and other things she would give to nursing homes and her church. In her younger years, Julie loved to bowl and was involved in many leagues in Winona.
Julie is survived by her loving husband, James; children, Clayton Haessig, Jennifer Haessig; granddaughter, MaLeah Mae Haessig; siblings, Mark (Pat) Atkinson, Sherry McCoy, Mike (Cheryl) Atkinson, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Carmen Atkinson; parents-in-law, Clayton and Mildred Haessig; brother-in-law, Gerald Haessig.
