John "Jack" Louis Bradt

April 22, 1940 — August 31, 2022

Chatfield

John “Jack” Bradt, 82, of Chatfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, at his daughter’s home in Chatfield.

John Louis Bradt was born April 22, 1940 in rural Chatfield, to Louis and Mary (Stokes) Bradt.  He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1958.  After high school Jack went to a trade school for carpentry for 2 years.  On October 27, 1962 Jack married Darlene Ann Jurgens in Worthington, IA.

Jack enjoyed spending time not only with his loving wife, Darlene, but all of his family. He especially enjoyed going to grandkids’ sporting events where he never missed a game. He was a grandpa to every kid in town, known as the “gum man” who always had packs of gum and dum dum suckers. The last year of his life he especially loved spending time with his newest great-granddaughter, Oaklynn, that he adored to pieces. When he wasn’t busy with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jack could be found hunting, going out for lunch with friends, or having a good time at Treasure Island. He made everyone laugh wherever he was at. Jack will be missed dearly..

Jack is survived by; son, Michael Bradt of Minneapolis; daughter Suzanne (Trevor) Bly of Chatfield; 4 grandchildren, Kayla, Kari, Jake Mandt, and Lucie Bradt; 2 step grandchildren, Kayla Bly, Cody (Jessica) Bly; 1 great-granddaughter, Oaklynn; 3 step great-grandchildren Brysten, Haven, and Ivory; and sister in-laws Joan (John) Sime and Colleen Bradt.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 58 years Darlene; son, Steven; 3 brothers, Larry (Dorothy), Jim, Richard, and 4 sisters, Beverly (Gene), Rosemary (Bernie), Marjane (Carl), and Donna Mae.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Joy Ridge Event Center in Chatfield, 273 Mill Creek Rd NW.

Jack will be missed but his legacy and humor will continue to live on.
