John Robert Hoegh

July 18, 1944 — November 18, 2025

Houston

John Hoegh passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 in the home they shared for almost 50 years.

He was born at Effie Cottrell’s home in Rushford to Donald and Olga Mae (Scotty) Hoegh on July 18, 1944, and happily lived in that community for most of his life. He was baptized, confirmed, and a member of Rushford Lutheran Church. He was a city kid but also enjoyed spending time working on the farm. He attended school in Rushford, playing football and basketball for the Trojans, and graduated in 1962. He then joined the US Navy, where he served as a weather observer on the USS Randolph and the USS Lake Champlain. He was extremely proud of his military career – one highlight being when his carrier picked up a crew of the Gemini space capsule on its landing.

After his four years in the Navy, he attended Mankato State University and graduated with a Criminal Justice and Sociology degree. He was always a hard worker and spent most of his career as an over-the-road trucker for various companies before retiring in 2008. John married Jacqueline (Jackie) Lindorff in 1976. They have two children, Heather and Christopher (Chris).

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, yelling at Minnesota sports teams and playing golf. Among his accomplishments are two holes-in-one shots one month apart and a ten-point trophy buck. John enjoyed reading crime fiction, and most of all entertaining his granddaughters, Lauren and Morgan. John had a joke and story for every occasion. And whether they made people laugh or groan, he took the time to stop and chat with anyone he could and made them feel seen and appreciated.

John and Jackie enjoyed traveling and took many trips together, home and abroad. They spent several winters with friends in Gulf Shores, AL. He had a big heart and was kind and generous and always helped those in need. He fought as hard as he could through five battles with cancer. His family felt his love very strongly.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Heather (Hoegh) Anderson, her husband Chris Anderson and their daughters, Lauren and Morgan (Cottage Grove), son Chris Hoegh (Minneapolis), brother Donald (Barbara) Heogh, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Judy (Steve) Allen, Kristie (Kiel) Anderson, Steve (Dianne) Lindorff, Jim Lindorff, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margo and her husband Richard Holz, Jackie’s parents Alfred Lindorff and Elaine & Jim Pickett, as well as her sister JeLaine (Peter) Kraetsch.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Rushford Lutheran Church.
