James "Jim" Trowbridge

Mar 12, 1936 — Aug 13, 2026

James Ray “Jim” Trowbridge, age 90, of Winona, MN, formerly of Burnsville, MN, died Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Sugar Loaf Senior Living in Winona, surrounded by the love of his 3 daughters.

James was born March 12, 1936 in Frazee, MN, the son of Richard and Eleanor (Karsnia) Trowbridge. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. On October 17, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Boltz in Frazee, MN. He spent over 40 years as a tradesman in the Local Pipefitter Union. Jim and Mary Ann made their home in Spring Lake Park, MN for several years before moving to Burnsville, MN, where they lived for over 30 years. In 2006 they moved to the banks of the Mississippi River in Jacobson, MN. Many memories were made at the home they lovingly called Mississippi Pines.

Jim cherished being outdoors with family and friends, and he especially enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, fishing, and ice fishing. Over the years he collected many boats, snowmobiles, trailers, and vehicles, which have yet to be titled in his name. Jim was a jack of all trades; he could fix anything as long as he had duct tape, E6000, zip ties, or sheet metal screws. These projects were lovingly called “Jimmy rigged.”

Jim had an active body and an active mind, always on the go and thinking of his next business venture. Even in his last days he was imagining his next great project. He also always had a story to share, a joke to tell, or a trick up his sleeve for a quick laugh. His love for chocolate malts and margaritas will always be remembered, along with his “secret” recipe for Pop’s Pancakes.

Jim is survived by his daughters: Tracy (Justin) Hale of Trempealeau, WI, Trudy (Travis) Hunter of Hanover, MN, and Trica (Brian Lloyd) Trowbridge of Beldenville, WI; grandchildren: Mason and Madeline Hale, and Ella and Nolan Hunter. Jim loved gathering with his family on special occasions and supporting grandchildren’s events and activities.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; his parents; in-laws, James and Stella Boltz; brother, Donald (Shirley) Trowbridge; brother-in-law, Mike Boltz.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to St. Croix Hospice, and the caregivers at Sugar Loaf Senior Living for the compassion and care they provided to him and his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday August 23, 2026, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Winona, MN from 1-3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
