James 'Jim' Speth

James ‘Jim’ Speth, age 79 of St. Charles, passed away on Saturday, September 17 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus in Rochester. Jim was born on August 10, 1943, in Beatrice, NE, the son of Oscar and Zelda (Payne) Speth.

Jim lived in the town of Dover and on a hobby farm outside of Dover for many years.  He enjoyed raising Quarter horses and also bringing random pets home like goats, chickens and ducks.  He worked at the Dover Ready Mix until he moved to Leitzen Concrete.  He retired from Mathy (Milestone)Construction as a dump truck driver.  Jim and his wife moved to St. Charles in 1990 where they still reside today. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of his lawn.  He enjoyed throwing horseshoes and camping and spending time with his family and friends.

Jim will always be remembered by his wife, Sharon Speth; children, Rick (Pamela) Harcey, Rodney (Carol) Harcey, Shianne (Josh) Mullikin; fifteen cherished grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Valerie) Speth; as well as his nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Zelda Speth; brothers, Dallas “Tex” (Lou) Speth, Richard “Dick” (Sharren) Speth; sisters, Darlene (Nick) Nichols, Patricia “Pat” (Jack) Duke.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 23 at the Hoff Funeral Home of St. Charles. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Interment will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.
