Gerald "Jerry" Brown, age 82, of Winona, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at Sauer Health Care in Winona.
Jerry was born on April 21, 1943, in Monticello, Minnesota, to William Peter Brown and Vera (Hamacher) Brown. He graduated from high school in Becker, Minnesota, and went on to work for the railroad, where he built a strong and steady career. Known for his quiet strength, hardworking spirit, and deep love for family, Jerry made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
In 1979, Jerry made the Winona area his home, where he lived for the past 46 years alongside his wife, Carol (Ellinghuysen) Brown. Together, they raised a large and loving family, and Jerry took great pride in being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, and nine children: Jonathan Brown, Tina Othoudt (Keith Braun), Rickey Brown, Jerry (Jon) Brown, Jason Brown, Eric Brown, Patrick Brown, Samantha Brown, and Christopher Brown. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Jerry is also survived by his siblings: Donald Brown, Harry Brown, Carl Brown, Pearl Brown, Roger Brown, Robert Brown, and Karen Schmittinger. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Kenny Brown, Loretta Moeller, and Duane Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Peter Brown and Vera (Hamacher) Brown.
Jerry will be remembered for his dedication, quiet humor, and steady presence. He enjoyed the simple things in life—time with family, a job well done, and the satisfaction of a day’s hard work. Jerry was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and looked forward to watching every game. He also found peace and joy in fishing, often spending hours by the water, reflecting and enjoying nature.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor on August 28th from 10 am to 2 pm at Sobieski Lodge, 965 7th St. in Winona, Minnesota.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sauer Health Care for their compassionate care. Jerry will be deeply missed, but the memories he gave us will remain forever in our hearts.
