Georgia Helen Sand, 89, of Houston, died Monday, September 4, 2023 at Valleyview Health Care and Rehab in Houston.
Georgia was born August 25, 1934, in Money Creek to George and Helen (Olson) McGaffey. She graduated from Houston High School in 1952. On May 28, 1955, she was united in marriage to Jerome Sand. They made their home in southern Wisconsin for several years before moving back to Houston in 1968. At that point, she began working at La Crosse Footwear where she remained until her retirement.
Georgia loved gardening, flowers, canning, going for daily walks and trips to the casino. She was an active and faithful member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. Her family was very important to her. Georgia was a very kind and caring woman, which was evident to anyone that met her.
She is survived by three daughters, Shelly (Leighton) Storsveen, Jeri Virock, and Connie (Garry) Edwards; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack Hammond; sister-in-law, Darlene Fahrenholtz and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome in 2015; parents and two sisters, Ona Belle Hammond and Doris (Stub) Loken.
Georgia’s family would like to thank the staff at Valleyview Healthcare and Rehab for all their loving and compassionate care they gave over the years.
Memorial Service will be 12 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2023, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dana Jackson officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the time of the service all at the church. She will be laid to rest at Money Creek Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Stone Church.
