Frederick Huhn

September 3, 1936 — November 14, 2020

Frederick Carl Huhn, 84, passed away peacefully at home on November 14th, after suffering a stroke. He was surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born at home on September 3, 1936 on the family farm in Bangor, WI to Karl & Viola (Schafer) Huhn. In his younger years, he attended Rockland Elementary and in 7th grade he attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church School. During his school years, Fred was very active in 4-H. He graduated from Bangor High School in 1954. In July 1959, Fred was drafted and served in the US Army until 1961. On August 21, 1965, Fred married Marilyn Beitlich. Fred and Marilyn did a lot of traveling in their 55 years of marriage, traveling throughout Europe and the United States. They also spent over 20 years wintering in Arizona with many Minnesota and Wisconsin friends.
Fred spent most of his life in banking, starting at First National Bank La Crosse (Norwest), then Houston State Bank, and finally retired in 1999 from Rushford State Bank. All told, he spent 40 years in the banking industry. He took great joy in helping his customers be successful and loved talking to all of them, many that he still had meaningful relationships with up to his last days. He was very involved in the Houston community, being on boards like Houston Housing Authority (45 years), Houston School Board, Houston Hoedown, Houston Ambulance, Houston City Council, Houston Chamber of Commerce, Houston County Bankers, ABLE, and the Houston Nursing Home. He loved the community of Houston and will leave a lasting legacy that he helped build along with other great Houstonians.
Fred taught those around him to work hard and enjoy life. Fred was a banker, but a farmer at heart. He loved his hobby farm on the hill, where he took great pride in raising so many different types of animals. He enjoyed tending to the animals and the gardens he and Marilyn were passionate about. Farm and antique auctions were also a favorite of his. He loved anything that involved family and friends, parties for birthdays, especially surprise parties, anniversaries, really any reason to get together brought him much joy. Fred also loved practical jokes with friends and family. He and his friends would be found dressing up for Halloween and showing up at other friends' houses or high school dances in masks and costumes. Fred also enjoyed the water parks in Wisconsin Dells and coordinated several trips there with friends and family. He cherished the tradition of going to Packer games, him being a die-hard Packer fan. Fred had a lifetime love of fishing and he took several trips to northern Minnesota with good friends to fish and relax. He especially enjoyed going to the cabin where he could fish, hang out with family, play euchre, and be around the ones he loved. All of those memories will be cherished by friends and family forever.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of 55 years. Three children: Jonathan (Karen) Huhn of Hudson, WI; Jennifer (Mike) Tripp of Plymouth, MN; and Heidi (Steve) Thompson of Houston, MN.
