Elaine Haggerty

May 25, 1955 — March 1, 2026

Winona, MN

Elaine Haggerty, 70, of Winona, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 1, 2026, with her beloved son Derek gently holding her hand. Her passing was as she lived her life—surrounded by love.

Elaine was born on May 25, 1955, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Ronaldo and Rose (Lajoie) Doyon. She devoted many years to serving her community as a leasing clerk with the Willimantic Housing Authority, where she oversaw 150 elderly housing units and 100 Section 8 units. Elaine’s work was more than a job—it was a calling to care for others. During her time there, she bravely rescued a family from a house fire, an extraordinary act of courage and compassion for which she was formally recognized. Helping others was simply who she was.

On October 21, 2006, Elaine married James Haggerty at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. She carried rosaries and prayer books wherever she went, along with five-dollar bills tucked away, ready to press into the hand of anyone who might need a little help. Her generosity was quiet, constant, and heartfelt.

Elaine found joy in life’s simple blessings—sewing for those she loved, baking sweet treats, and making her cherished perogies for family gatherings. Above all, she treasured time with her family. Her greatest pride and happiness were her son Derek, her daughter-in-law Gale, and her adored grandson, Ethan—affectionately known as “E-man.” Being “Mom” and “MeMe” were the roles she held closest to her heart.

She is lovingly survived by her son, Derek (Gale) Lanning of Rushford, Minnesota; her beloved grandson, Ethan Lanning; her sister, Sheila Butch of East Hartland, Connecticut; and dear friends Kathie Deptula, Stephanie Iazzetta, and Ellen Haggerty.

Elaine was welcomed into eternal rest by her parents, Rose and Ronaldo Doyon, Jeanne and Paul Landolina, and her siblings Debbie Doyon, Ciccina Landolina, and Daniel Duchaine.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care and unwavering support during Elaine’s final days.

Elaine will be remembered for her boundless kindness, steadfast faith, warm kitchen, and the fierce love she had for her family. Her gentle spirit and generous heart leave a lasting imprint on all who were blessed to know her.
