Altura, Edward A. Neumann, 78, of Altura died Thursday January 15, 2004 at the Lewiston Villa. Ed was born February 27, 1925 in Winona County to Albert and Lorenda (Kohner) Neumann. He and Neva Tews were married on June 1, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church ? Silo in rural Lewiston. The couple made their home in the Altura area their entire married lives. In the 1960's Ed was a foreman for Rochester Sand and Gravel. In 1971 he became a Standard Oil Agent. He retired in 1988 from Neumann Oil in Altura. Ed was a member of Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura, where he had served in various church offices. He was a charter member of the Altura Lions Club. At one time he served on the Altura City Council. Ed loved to golf, play cards and to fish. Survivors include his wife Neva, a son Dave (Mary) Neumann of Altura, a son-in-law Wayne Stender of Winona, six grandchildren Mark (Staci) Stender of Dubuque, IA; Annette (Joel) Zittel of Altura; Nathan Stender (Jenny Peterson) of St. Paul; Matthew, Andrew and Clint Neumann of Altura, four great-grandchildren Emily, Katherine, William and Linley Stender, a brother Francis (Lorraine) Neumann of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by a daughter Susan Stender, a nephew Donald Neumann and his parents. Funeral Services will be 11AM Monday at Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura with the Revs. David A. Fischer and Michael A. Lindemann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church from 3-7 PM Sunday and one hour before services Monday. Hoff Funeral Home's ? Lewiston Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the Winona Area Hospice Services in Lieu of flowers.
