HART, Minn. - Douglas K. Marin, 44, of Hart, Minn. died Friday, January 2, 2004, at his farm following a 6 month, courageous battle with lymphoma. Doug was born on October 7, 1959, in Winona, Minn. to Stanley and Marcy (Volkman) Marin. He was Raised in Hart and Graduated from Rushford High School in 1978. Since then he has farmed with his father and brothers west of Hart. Doug enjoyed farming, especially caring for the cows. He had recently been working toward building a larger dairy set up. Doug loved his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, which he traveled on to Sturgis, S.D. in 2001. One year later he married his soul mate Kelly Miller in Sturgis S.D. on August 6, 2002. Doug never once complained about his illness. He was a very inspiring, selfless person, who held his family together through it all. Doug is survived by his wife Kelly; his parents: Stanley and Marcy Marin of Rushford; two daughters: Holly Marin of Winona, and Dakota Marin, at home; one step daughter: Kelsey Miller, at home; two brothers: Jerry (Patty) Marin and Glen Marin, both of Rushford; one very special sister: Cindy (Dave) Howe of Rushford; a very special great-aunt: Olga Feine of Winona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hart, Minn. with the Rev. Frederick Buth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the St. Johns Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society. God brought me into the world crying, and you were smiling; God took me away smiling, and you were crying. Daughter Holly's words: I was dad's angel on earth, He is my angel in heaven.
