Donald Zacher

HOUSTON, MINN. - Donald O. Zacher, 77, of Houston died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, Wis. Donald was born on January 22, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wis. to Henry and Wilhelmina Zacher. He was raised in Milwaukee and was an Army Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during WWII. He married Beverly Simpson. Beverly died in 1992. Donald lived in Milwaukee and Brookfield, Wis. until 1966, when he moved to Houston. After moving to Houston he became a self employed auto mechanic and motel operator, as well as running Zach?s Shack, a used odds and ends store. Donald was a charter member of the Brookfield V.F.W. in Brookfield, Wis. He was a man who enjoyed his work and talking with the people. He is survived by two sons: Gerald Zacher of Whitesburg Tenn. and James Zacher of Houston, Minn.; one daughter: Christine (Ronald) Draper of Fountain City, Wis.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother: Harvey (Barbara) Zacher of Grafton, Wis.; and one sister Marilyn (Bill) Steffen of Milwaukee, Wis. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter, and two sisters. There will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel with funeral celebrant John Wagenaar officiating. Burial of Donald's cremated body will be at the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
