Diane Kernler

Diane Gail Kernler, 70 of Winona, died Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse following a long battle with MS.
Diane was born March 27, 1951 in Minneapolis to Martin & Thora (Fitzgerald) Formico. She graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis. Diane married Chuck Kernler and they spent many wonderful years together. They eventually divorced but remained friends. Diane worked as a Library Aide at the St. Charles Library for many years. She was also a minister for the Whitewater Valley Christian Fellowship.
Diane enjoyed gardening and was fascinated with frogs, water gardens and habitats. She also enjoyed volunteering and teaching ESL in St. Charles.
Diane is survived by two sons, Daniel (Veronica) Kernler and Matthew Kernler; two grandsons, Aaron & Raymond Kernler; and her sister, Sharon (James) Hakanson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Holzinger Lodge in Winona led by Funeral Celebrant, Jodi Heim. A celebration of her life will continue until 8 p.m. Memorials are preferred to Compassion & Choices or Southern Poverty Law Center.
