Derald Wayne Iverson was born March 12, 1932 to Wesley and Dora (Haugen) Iverson. Derald grew up in the area of the Big Woods north of Mabel and attended elementary school in Newburg and graduated from Mabel High School. At age 18, Derald began his working career for Snyder Nursery planting and delivering trees. From then on, he had many careers and became an accomplished painter and carpenter for many businesses. This included working for E Hagner in La Crosse where he was involved in refinishing church furniture. He completed a course in Chicago which gave him the expert knowledge of finishing these fine furnishings. He also worked for M Painting Co, La Crosse, WI.
He retired from the Winona Hospital organization where he spent 18 years as a painter. During his retirement years, he was involved with many painting projects involving downtown businesses, homes and apartments in the Rushford, MN area which kept him very busy. He was a member of the Newburg Methodist Church.
Derald was a kind, thoughtful, pleasant man who enjoyed visiting with others learning and remembering many stories and history. Derald had a love of history and geography and appreciated the movies on States shown at the nursing home. His love of automobiles gave him the ability to identify any type of vehicle. He had a quick wit and positive attitude. He loved animals - especially his favorites Coco and Tobi who he called the "boys." He will be missed by many, especially his good friend Larry. It is so appreciated for the special care he received from the Good Shepherd Nursing Home staff.
Derald passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Rushford at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents and his long time partner, Alvina Engler. He is survived by Alvina's son Gerald Engler.
Funeral services will be at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford, MN at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 13, 2023 with visitation one hour before.
