Dennis Schumacher

Dennis D. Schumacher, 68, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Dennis was born September 9, 1934 in Mayer, MN to August and Florence (Foster) Schumacher. Dennis served in the Air Force during the Korean War. On June 13, 1964 he married Nancy Malkemes in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She later died August 22, 1991. Dennis was a rural Postal Carrier in LaCrescent, MN retiring in August 2001. He was an active member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston and will be remembered for making Easter breakfast for the past several years for the church. Dennis was a member of the American Legion Post 423 in Houston where he had served as the Post Commander for the past 13 years. Along with his passion for cooking and baking, Dennis enjoyed model trains and making stain glass decorations. Dennis is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Kevin) Balfanz and their children Sam and Ted of Stillwater, MN; a son, Steven (Theresa) Schumacher and their son Tyler of Plymoth, MN; companion for the last eight years, Shirley Sachs; one brother, Duane (Mary) Schumacher of Watertown, MN; a sister, Carol (Nick) Vamvakias of Fairfax, VA; and sister-in-law, Laverne Schumacher of Torrance, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nancy and a brother, Kenneth.Funeral services are planned for Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 1:00pm at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with the Reverends Lane Zaffke and Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes – Houston Chapel on Friday from 5-8:00pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 423 of Houston.
