David Roy Sorum

d. October 6, 1949

David Roy Sorum, 67, of Minneapolis died unexpectedly, Wednesday, August 30th at his home. David was born October 6, 1949 in Winona to Francis and Mary Evelyn (Groger) Sorum. He lived in St. Charles with his family before moving to Rochester in 1959 and graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester in 1967. Following high school David attended Macalester College in St. Paul. He then transferred to the University of Minnesota to study chemical engineering.

David worked for General Mills and later for Quick Silver Courier Service, until retiring. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for his Minnesota Twins and Vikings, NCAA Football and the Final Four in College basketball. When younger, David enjoyed bowling, tennis, golfing and spelunking. He loved his family and would go out of his way to help and be kind to all people.
Survivors include his mother Mary Evelyn Sorum, of Rochester, siblings, Ellen Sorum and Gary Sorum, both of Minnetonka, Minnesota. He is also survived by his niece Priscilla Greenwood and his grand-niece Grace Greenwood of St. Louis, MO, and a sister-in-law Mary Claire Hamlin of Akron, OH.
David was preceded in death by his father, Francis and a brother Peter.
Private family services will be held. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service of St. Charles is assisting the family with arrangements. Please leave a memory of David at his online guestbook at www.hofffuneral.com.
