David Ellis Jones, 83, of St. Charles, MN passed away on May 5, 2026, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
David was born on October 6, 1942, in Ostrander, MN to Robert and Fern Jones. He spent his early years in Spring Valley, MN where he graduated from Spring Valley High School. As a young man, he developed a strong work ethic, briefly working in a garage and learning to repair cars.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years and was stationed in Germany. After returning home, he met and married Dorothy "Dotty" Kruse of Meyer, IA on July 29, 1967. They moved to St. Charles, MN in 1969, where they raised their 4 children. Dotty passed away on October 1, 1997. In 2005, David found companionship again with Peggy McAllister, and they shared a love of pups and Irish music and culture.
David attended Rochester Community College and later earned his bachelor's and master's degrees while working at the Mayo Clinic. David taught for one year at St. Charles High School before continuing his career at Mayo Clinic in the computer lab. Dave and Dotty at this time established the H&R Block office in St. Charles, serving many in the community. He later worked as an accountant, a role that fit well with his love of numbers, organization, and spreadsheets.
In his younger days, David was an active member of his community, participating in organizations such as the Jaycees, Lions Club, and Toastmasters. He was known as a true do-it-yourselfer who believed duct tape could fix almost anything and often joked, "If three screws are good, six will be better."
Family life included life's simple pleasures such as, card parties, camping, collecting stamps, coins, and rocks, enjoying sweets and desserts, and exploring Irish history. Above all, David was a loving, generous, and supportive father who was always at the ready for a hug. His warmth, humor, and easy laughter made him the life of the party.
David is survived by his children, Becky Storey Hunder, Jeff (Kris) Jones, Chris (Dave) Fulcher, and Jonathan Jones; his grandchildren, Jacob, Kim, Rachael, Jaclyn, Veronica, Mitchell, Abigail, Matthew, Daniel, Will, and Dorothy; nine great-grandchildren; and his sister, DeeAnn Freitag.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Dorothy and Peggy; his son-in-law, Paul Storey; his brother, Phil Jones; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Freitag.
