Darrell T Hander

Darrell Hander, 83, of St. Charles died with his family by his side at Whitewater Health Services, on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Darrell went to school in Dover, MN and lived out the rest of his life in St. Charles. This is where he met Judy. With the help of a 6 pack of beer, she fell in love with his blue eyes and they married March 11, 1967.

Most of his career was spent in a truck, working road construction for 35 + years. He did find time to enjoy working with his dad on the Hander farm. This struck his love for antique John Deere tractors which he passed on to his oldest son, Matt. In addition to working on tractors, he built stock cars with his boys. Many hours were spent in the garage getting Mike’s car just right for racing night. Matt decided to join in on the fun and they all enjoyed the racing years together.

As time went by and life slowed down a bit with retirement, it was time to fish. He loved fishing with his grandsons, Seth and Sawyer. Whether he was there with them fishing and eating snacks or just waited for them to return to clean their catch in his shed so they could cook some up later. He was also an animal lover, with a soft spot for cats. He and Judy were never without a little cat fur on their slippers.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Judy; 2 sons, Matt (Shellie) of St. Charles, and Mike (Lora) of Dodge Center; 2 grandsons, Seth (Kaley) of St. Charles and Sawyer (Jess) of St. Charles; brother, David Hander of Rochester; and grand-dogs, Eugi and Jetta.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tori Maye; parents, Thomas and Frances; sisters, Dorothy and Mary; and cats, Tiger, Snickers, Cinder, Lucy, and Trixie.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Saratoga Cemetery.
