Danny "Buck" Glenn Bothun

February 7, 1948 — November 28, 2023

Preston

Danny “Buck” Bothun, 75, passed away peacefully in his home on November 28, 2023. He was surrounded by his family.

Buck was born on February 7, 1948, to Irvin and Amy (Hoiseth) Bothun. He was one of five children and grew up in Chatfield, Minnesota, where he attended Chosen Valley High School. Shortly thereafter he met the love of his life Cynthia Allen.

On September 6th, 1980, Buck married Cynthia Allen at the Chatfield Lutheran Church. They had three children: Jason (Christina) Bothun, Melissa (Chad McCorquodale) Bothun, and Troy Bothun. They were married for 43 years.

Buck fenced for Oscar Kalstabakken for many years.  Then moved on to work at AFC/Strongwell in Chatfield in 1980. During which he had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii to help with opening of a new plant facility.  He worked there for 34 years before retiring.

While Buck retired from Strongwell, he could not sit still for long, and shortly after his retirement he volunteered at the Methodist Church in Preston, MN. Buck enjoyed watering the flowers outside of the church and making sure the church was always clean for service.

If there is anything Buck will be remembered for, it is his “what else then” approach and sense of humor, you would always leave in a better mood after talking with him. Buck always cracked a joke to lighten the mood and had the best dad jokes, from motorcycles zipping by in all seasons to saying he had a hand like a foot during playing cards with family.

Buck enjoyed cooking, especially his delicious baked beans. He also enjoyed playing cards, going to the gym, daily walks and bike rides on the Preston Trail with his grandchildren, bird watching, fishing with his boys, hunting but only until his toes got cold, puzzles, watching his beloved team the Vikings, grill outs and camping with his family, tinkering in the garage, and if there wasn’t anything to be fixed, he would find something to fix. While Buck enjoyed many pleasures of life, the most important thing he would always say was his family meant everything to him. He adored his children, grandchildren, and his little pumpkin Odin.

Buck will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

He leaves behind a loving wife, Cindy Bothun of Preston, his three children: Jason (Christina) Bothun of Preston, Melissa (Chad McCorquodale) Bothun of Burr Oak, IA, Troy Bothun of Preston. Ten Grandchildren: Dylan, Hannah, Abigail, Audrey, Gavin, Dawson, Carson, Alayna, Aniston, and Ariana. One great-grandson Odin. A brother Kenneth (Lars) Bothun and two sisters LouAnn Bothun and Lois Barnes. Along with nieces and nephews.

Buck went home to be with his parents, and brother Donald (Ole) Bothun.

Family would like to thank all the heartwarming visits and calls to checkup on Buck. Family would also like to thank Mayo Clinic Hospice for all the comfort care for Buck and his family throughout this difficult time.

There will be a memorial service for Buck on Saturday, December 9, 2023, 11:00AM at the Preston United Methodist Church. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 9:30AM-11:00AM.
